Here are the earliest known pics of the newly named "Moving Violation". Practice at Mike the drummer's house in early January,1967. We later moved downstairs to practice when we got our Fender amps. Jim and myself are using some nice Ampeg tube amps. Steve just got his beautiful Eko violin bass. The set lists are actually from October 1966 but we were still doing these songs and learning more tunes that Jim and Gary were bringing in. The last song on both lists is an oringal instrumental "The Midnight Ride" not raid!
These pictures are from Steve's basement in June of 1967. Bob Schmit is the other singer. We added him as a vocalist just to use his Wilder PA speaker columns! He was also good at sticking his finger in his ear.
By now it's September,1967 and we had just hooked up with Lee Abrams who went to the same high school as me. He was a year younger but had his own record company, Gem Records. He was an amazing kid, full of energy and dreams of someday working in radio. He recorded us in mid September and the record came out after we won the Battle of the bands. Just before the battle, the music union came after us to join up. We had to join because of the threat of goons who could come after us and destroy our equipment! The pic of all of us with Lee is from a Chicago Tribune article they did on Lee the boy wonder! It is supposed to be the "signing of the Moving Violation to Gem Records". It was staged in Lee's living room at his parents house. The song list is from late September,1967.
It's 1968 and "The Moving Violation" is headed for the last roundup. The group plays its last dance at Bloom High School's Blue& White dance in February as "The Moving Violation". Steve the bassist is kicked out first. Then Mike the drummer is let go. I quit a little while later then rejoined after I began to miss it too much. In April we renamed ourselves the "Red,White and Blues Band". Louie joined on drums and Steve our second vocalist began to play bass with this version. And Gary, our lead vocalist, got a keyboard. We played some Valley View dances and by the end of August it was the end. But all was not lost as I was able to meet up with Debby who was in an all girl band. I was very happy at long last to have a girlfriend so the band ending really wasn't a big deal for me!
Yes, the "The Moving Violation" and "The Red,White and Blues Band" had ended but within a few years, members of the "The Moving Violation" had relocated to Denver,CO. In 1973 "The Frank Hart Band" was founded made up with three former members from TMV. Mike the drummer, Steve [oringal bass player] and myself. Courtney and Frank were also included on guitar+vocals and bass respectively. We were a country-rock band and now Steve was playing pedal steel with Frank handling the bass duties. We all lived in the same house in a great part of Denver named Washington Park. With this band we got a house gig at Freddie's Lounge out on West Colfax just west of Denver. We played there every Sunday through Tuesday, end of June through August the summer of 74. We played a South Pearl Street Fair along side of the restaurant I worked at called "Bilotti's". After "The Frank Hart Band" it evolved into the band named "Big Frank". The last photos are of "Big Frank" playing the "Piano Bar" in Idaho Springs, an old mining town west of Denver. I had just moved to Evergreen in 1975 so it was kinda close and an easy commute. That gig was every Friday and Saturday for a while in the spring. This would be the last band in the linage of "The Moving Violation". Mike the drummer and myself being the original members remaining. Adios!
