The Moving Violation was Dennis Johnson's high school band, which won the 1967 Bloom High School Battle of the Bands, an event that launched Dennis's musical career. Dennis wrote the memoir of the same title with the help of RJ Furth, a fellow musician and novel writer. This site was created to promote The Moving Violation Memoir and to stimulate online discussions about first bands, those exciting creations that remain forever etched in our memories.

This is my school ID from my sophomore year at H-F. I had just bought my first electric guitar for 90 dollars and all was right with the world! It also was my worst year academically!

School ID from my junior year. The picture was taken just after my trip to the east coast in August,1967. I was way more about being in a band than going school. Can you tell?

RJ Furth didn't start playing an instrument (harmonica) until he was nearly 20. Since then he added guitar and bass, and has played in bands on three continents. Since leaving teaching (on four continents) he has focused his energy on writing and music. RJ has written eight novels and has a website for travel writing called Globewriter.
